Experts Highlight Ghana’s Post-Election Highs and Lows at KAIPTC’s Reflection Security Series event

The aftermath of the 2016 general elections, has been marred by some worrying occurrences that threatened to unravel and overshadow the commendable democratic gains made through holding successful elections in December last year. The activities of vigilante groups, particularly, have raised a lot of eyebrows and concerns on the nation’s security and the effectiveness of its security institutions.
Experts and Stakeholders assemble at KAIPTC to discuss ways to counter violent extremism

Security experts and stakeholders converged at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) from 7-8 November, 2016, to interrogate the root causes of violent extremism and how Human Security Initiatives could be used to counter this growing trend on the African Continent. The two-day workshop served at a great platform to identify the roles of stakeholders at the national, regional and international levels in the prevention and countering of violent extremism, and to discuss ways in which adopting a human security approach and involving communities can aid traditional law enforcement methods in preventing and responding to Violent Extremism. The workshop was jointly organized by the KAIPTC in conjunction with African Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT), and was sponsored by the Spanish Government.

Accra, 8 novembre 2016: Des spécialistes et acteurs en matière de sécurité se sont réunis, du 7 au 8 novembre 2016, au Centre International Kofi Annan de Formation au Maintien de la Paix (KAIPTC), pour examiner les causes profondes de l’extrémisme violent et chercher à comprendre comment les initiatives de sécurité humaine pourraient être utilisées pour contrecarrer cette tendance grandissante sur le continent africain. Cet atelier de deux jours a servi de plateforme exceptionnelle pour identifier les rôles des acteurs aux niveaux national, régional et international dans le cadre de la prévention et la lutte contre l’extrémisme violent ainsi que pour examiner les moyens dans lesquels l’adoption d’une approche de sécurité humaine et l’implication de la communauté pourraient appuyer les méthodes traditionnelles de maintien de l’ordre en vue de prévenir et combattre l’extrémisme violent. Cet atelier, qui a été organisé conjointement par le KAIPTC et le Centre africain d’études et de recherche sur le terrorisme (CAERT), a été parrainé par le gouvernement espagnol.
Le Professeur Albert appelle les organismes régionaux à renforcer les entités de consolidation de la paix

Le Professeur Isaac Olawale Albert, professeur renommé d’Etudes de paix et de conflits à l’Université d’Ibadan, Nigéria, a demandé aux organismes régionaux d’approfondir les efforts visant à mettre en œuvre le programme de consolidation de la paix à l’échelle mondiale. Il a indiqué que la consolidation de la paix était un ensemble d’activités qui exigent un partenariat aux niveaux gouvernemental, intergouvernemental et non gouvernemental.

Renowned Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, Professor Isaac Olawale Albert, has charged regional bodies to deepen efforts geared towards the implementation of peacebuilding agenda globally. He noted that peacebuilding is a multiplicity of activities that demands partnership at the governmental, inter-governmental, non-governmental levels.

Le Centre International Kofi Annan de Formation au Maintien de la Paix (KAIPTC) est apparu à la première sur la liste institution d’Afrique subsaharienne selon le classement de Global Tank-To Think Tank. Le KAIPTC s’est également classé en deuxième place parmi les cinq institutions africaines qui ont figuré sur la liste mondiale des principaux groupes de réflexion sur la politique étrangère et les affaires internationales. Le KAIPTC s’est placé devant l’Institut d’études de sécurité et l’Institut sud-africain des Affaires internationales (SAIIA), toutes les deux situés en Afrique du Sud, et le Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD) du Ghana.
KAIPTC Ranks first in Sub-Saharan Africa On Global Go-To Think Tank Ranking

The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has emerged the first institution in sub-Saharan Africa on the Global Go-To Think Tank Ranking. The KAIPTC also ranked second out of five institutions on the entire continent, who appeared on the global list of leading think tanks in foreign policy and international affairs. KAIPTC outranked the Institute for Security Studies and the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), both in South Africa, and the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD), Ghana.
KAIPTC holds Joint Graduation Ceremony

A total of 89 students graduated from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), in a joint graduation ceremony held for students in the 2015/2016 classes of the Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security, Master of Arts in Gender, Peace and Security, and the Executive Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security.
